£5000 SCHOLARSHIP FOR SEPTEMBER 2026 STUDENTS!
The Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning MSc is a one-year full-time degree programme (or two years with a placement/research year) at the University of Brighton, located in Brighton, UK, just one hour from central London, in the UK's leading city for new economy and AI businesses. Designed for graduates who want to master the technology reshaping every industry on earth, this programme combines core machine learning and data science fundamentals with specialist knowledge in deep learning, responsible AI, and intelligent systems - preparing you to design, build and deploy AI solutions that address real global challenges.
Programme Structure The programme runs over one year full-time (or two to six years part-time), with September and January start dates available, delivered fully in English. You'll develop expertise across programming, machine learning, model evaluation, and AI ethics, with the option to extend your studies through an industry placement or research year, giving you either valuable professional experience or advanced academic research skills before you graduate. International students can benefit from a two-year study visa route supported by this course.
What You'll Study Your studies cover the full breadth of AI and machine learning, from programming for AI and data science, to machine learning techniques and model evaluation, deep learning, responsible AI, algorithmic bias, cyber security, and data science. You'll apply your knowledge to real datasets using industry-standard tools including Python, R, SAS, and ML libraries. You'll also critically explore the ethical and societal implications of AI, ensuring your solutions are responsible, robust, and fit for purpose.
Specialist Facilities You'll have access to specialist facilities including a CISCO-certified cyber security and communications lab, a usability lab, HPC computing, and industry-standard software including Python, R, SAS, and ML libraries — the same tools used by professionals across the world's leading AI-driven organisations.

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE FOR AVIATION PROFESSIONALS
This is a generalist Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning degree. It does not specialise in aviation. However, if you already hold a Bachelor's degree in Aviation Engineering or a related aviation discipline, this MSc gives you the powerful opportunity to combine your existing aviation expertise with cutting-edge AI skills - creating a specialisation that very few professionals in the world currently hold.
IF YOU HAVE AN AVIATION DEGREE - THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING
The aviation industry is undergoing one of the most significant technological transformations in its history. EASA has identified AI as a priority across every aviation domain, and the demand for professionals who understand both aviation systems and artificial intelligence is growing rapidly. If you already have a foundation in aviation, here is exactly how this MSc can help you lead that transformation:
Flight Operations Use machine learning to build systems that predict turbulence, icing conditions, and operational disruptions, assisting crews with smarter, data-driven decision-making in real time.
Predictive Maintenance Apply AI-based predictive maintenance models to optimise maintenance schedules, forecast the remaining useful life of aircraft components, and prevent failures before they happen, directly supporting EASA Part 66 and MRO operations.
Air Traffic Management Develop AI systems that analyse weather patterns, airspace congestion, and sector configurations to optimise flight routes, reduce delays, cut fuel consumption, and support Air Traffic Controllers with faster, more informed decisions.
Airport Operations Build computer vision systems for the detection of foreign object debris on runways, identification of unlawful drones, security screening, and dangerous goods detection inside terminals.
Drones and Urban Air Mobility As air taxis and unmanned aircraft become a reality, AI will be essential for safely integrating manned and unmanned traffic. Use your skills to develop obstacle detection, trajectory management, and U-space service systems.
Cybersecurity in Aviation Design AI-powered systems that automatically detect and patch vulnerabilities in aviation networks and identify threats on a behavioural basis. a growing priority for regulators and airlines alike.
Safety Risk Management Apply AI to vast safety datasets to detect emerging risks, classify occurrences, and support Safety Risk Portfolio design — empowering CAMO managers, Safety Managers, and regulators with intelligence they couldn't access before.
Environmental Optimisation Use AI to optimise flight trajectories, reduce carbon emissions, and support environmental impact assessments helping the aviation industry meet its sustainability targets.
