Course Overview
The European Pilot Academy EASA 0 to Airline Programme is a comprehensive two-year pilot training programme based at Malta International Airport, Luqa, Malta. Delivered by European Pilot Academy, an institution with over 30 years of experience and more than 3,000 successful graduates — this programme is fully compliant with EASA requirements and takes you from zero experience to a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with a Frozen ATPL, giving you everything you need to launch your airline career.
Programme Structure
The programme is structured across three clear steps.
Step 1 - Private Pilot Licence (PPL)
You begin with the foundational skills required to fly safely and efficiently. Ground school covers 110 hours of theory across 9 subjects — Aviation Law, Aircraft General Knowledge, Flight Performance and Planning, Human Performance, Meteorology, Navigation, Operational Procedures, Principles of Flight, and VFR Communications. Flight training requires a minimum of 45 hours on a single-engine aircraft, made up of 25 hours dual and 10 hours solo.
Step 2 - ATPL Theory, Night Rating, Instrument Foundation and Hour Build
This step builds your theoretical and practical depth. You'll complete ATPL ground school covering 13 theory exams plus a KSA exam, delivered through a blended digital and classroom system. Alongside this, you'll complete a Night Rating (5 hours night flying), a Basic Instrument Flying Module (5 hours flight training plus 5 hours instrument simulator), and an 85-hour hour build as Pilot in Command.
Step 3 - Multi-Engine, Instrument Rating and CPL
The final step takes you to full commercial licence standard. You'll complete a Multi-Engine Rating on the Diamond DA-42 (6 hours), an Instrument Rating (16.5 hours on the DA-42 plus 30 hours on an approved FNTP II simulator), and your Commercial Pilot Licence flight test (5 hours on the DA-42 plus 10 hours on a Piper Warrior).
Training Summary
The programme runs over 2 years with 235 total flight training hours and 760 hours of ground school. Malta offers 330 flyable days per year, meaning your training stays on track with minimal weather disruption.
